Default Should I buy?

My question is whether or not I should buy guild wars. I just found out about the game and I just want some input. The reason why I post this is because I don't really want to buy it based upon reviews. I read up a bit on the game but I just generally don't know too much on how it stacks up with other online role playing games.

I like the genre as a whole. I've played all the diablo games and absolutely loved them. I have also played WoW (which I bought based upon reviews) and don't seem to like as much. The only other massive online game I have played is FFXI and I liked it just as much as the diablo games. I'm not exactly sure why I liked FFXI over WoW. I think mostly due to its more realistic graphics, how it seemed a lot more rewarding to me with advanced classes and overall how the game is played. For anyone who knows both games, a quick response would be cool. I am just wondering if guild wars would fit into my gaming tastes.

I'd check out the content on the main page. It'll give you a good idea of how the game is played and then you can decide based on what you know you like.
My opinion is that if you liked the diablo games, then you'll probably like this game.

For comparison... I never played Diablo, but when I first got into GW it at first reminded me of Dungeon Seige in the way missions and -some- of the gameplay were handled.

In my opinion, and I'm not nor have I ever been a zealot of Guild Wars nor was I in the beta test, Guild Wars is the most balanced RPG-genre game I've ever played. It's one of the few that allows you to recover from mis-speccing your character early on when you didn't really understand the end-game dynamic. It also requires strategy over hack-n-slash, which allows me to exercise my brain vice hitting attack and drinking a Pepsi like I did in many former games.

It plays just as well in PvE as it does in PvP. It's the first game in a LONG time that I haven't been able to set aside. There's a lot to do and more to do coming. I've been impressed by just about every aspect of the game thus far.

As the game stands right now and if you like Diablo style games.... Buy it if you are looking for a fun 3-4 weeks. Do not buy if you are looking for a game that you can sink your teeth into for 3-4 months or longer.

I liked D2, but I found that WoW got boring once I hit the midgame. There just wasn't much character customization with WoW and the combat wasn't deep enough to compensate. Plus, there was a lot of grind.

I've only had Guild Wars for a few days (Mo/N14), but I like it a lot. With the huge number of unique skills, I can customize my toolbar to fit any given situation.

The major thing that I don't like is the item system. As a monk, my armor choices are like this:
Regular
+Armor vs. Physical, -Armor vs. Everything Else
+Armor vs. Everything, -Armor vs. Fire
-Armor vs. Everything, -Armor vs. Cold, +Energy

For my hat, I get to pick:
Regular
-Armor vs. Everything, +Attribute

Coming from WoW and D2, this is a big disappointment. There should be more variety. For example, something that gave +Energy Regen, but -Energy would make my choices much more interesting.

Still, the game is very fun so far. There are a number of different experiences that I can choose from to suit my mood. I can participate in missions if I want a directed, group PvE experience. I can do PvP if I want to fight other players. I can do regular quests if I want to play by myself or explore.

Based on your comments..........you seem to like a deep game which offers diversity and a rich RPG experience (games such as Diablo2, FFXI)

Stunning graphics, heaps of customisation options and alot of grinding..........

You probably would like this game due to the great P vs E story mode but you will get bored real quick if your not into P vs P...........the game caps at lvl20.....basically theirs nothing to do after you finish story mode besides P vs P or G vs G and theirs not alot to improve in your character (Max 200 attribute pts)

To my understanding you can combine two classes in FFXI, correct? You can do the same in GW, but the classes are called "proffesions". There are some pretty sick combos in GW, too. I think you'll love it.
